Welcome!
I'm glad you're reading this, because it means you might be considering me for your next illustration project! This page may look daunting, but any questions you might have about the commission process will likely be answered here. So let's dive in, shall we?
My Rights as the Artist:
• By default I retain the copyright and reproduction rights to my work. I reserve the right to upload a low resolution watermarked version of any work I create. The Client may choose to remain anonymous. If the Client wishes for a piece to remain private, a fee of 5x the final cost of the commission will apply. This fee covers only keeping the commission from being shared, but it does not grant the Client permission to reproduce the work or profit from it in any manner. I prefer to avoid doing private work, as I love to share my works with others who might enjoy them too.
• I request that the Client always publish credit to Mottenfest Studio and include a link to (https://twitter.com/ScrappedHellcat) whenever possible on clean artwork. For mature art, please credit the work to Junkyard Hellcat and link to (https://twitter.com/junkyardhellcat).
• I reserve the right to refuse the posting of my artwork certain websites. Such sites include those that allow the any form of sexualization that targets children, or characters that appear to be children, and sites focused on hate speech and intimidation.
• It is extremely unlikely, but reserve the right to refuse service if I am uncomfortable. This decision will not be made on the basis of race, color, religion, or national origin.
Your Rights as the Client:
• If the Client has a deadline in mind for the artwork, they must include that information to me before I provide the itemized price quote.
• The Client will receive a low resolution watermarked copy of their commission for sharing in their personal galleries (as long as it doesn't violate the previous content restrictions). I request the Client not redistribute the high resolution file to those not directly involved with the commission. Those considered directly involved includes those who have contributed payment, or those with characters included in the piece.
• If applicable, any original copies of artwork must be requested within 30 days from the date the art is completed and sent to the Client. After such time, originals are considered abandoned and may be sold. The Client may choose to only own a high resolution scan of their commission and not obtain the original drawing. Shipping is paid by the Client.
• If the Client wishes for a commission to remain private, a fee of x5 the final cost of the commission will apply. This fee covers only keeping the commission from being shared by the artist, it does not grant the client permission to reproduce the work or profit from it in any manner. I prefer to avoid doing private work, as I love to share my works with others who might enjoy them too.
• If the Client wishes to cancel a commission and no work has been started, a full refund will be issued. If the commission has already been started, a partial refund will be issued. The refunded amount is at my discretion based on how far into completion the work is at the time of cancellation.
The Commission Process:
• Once I have reviewed and approve the Client's concept, I will issue an itemized quote. This quote is good for two weeks after it is issued. For all commissions I request that I be provided with clear image references for each character involved. An additional fee may apply to written descriptions, depending on complexity. I will alert the Client if the description provided will incur such a fee before payment is rendered.
• If the commission includes characters not owned by the Client, I may request the owners contact me directly for approval to be included in the commission.
• A commission officially begins when the Client has signed the contract I will provide via email.
• I will begin work once full payment is received. Online I currently only accept PayPal, but in person cash is also accepted. If paid cash, the Client will be issued a signed itemized receipt for their records.
• The Client will be provided with a sketch for approval before the final draft is completed. The Client will be given two chances to request changes or corrections. Further corrections may require an additional fee, situation depending. The Client will be given the opportunity to approve fees before work continues. If I have made an error that has strays from the Client’s clearly written instructions, the revisions will be made free of charge.
• Once the sketch is approved, the drawing will be completed and a high resolution scan or digital file will be sent to the Client, along with a low resolution watermarked copy that the Client may share.
• The Client may choose to only own a high resolution scan on their commission and not obtain the original drawing (if applicable). The Client may request the original within 30 days from the date the work is completed and sent to the Client. After such time, the original is considered abandoned and may be sold. Shipping is paid by the Client.
Content Restrictions:
• I will draw a variety subjects including character designs, full illustrations, and comics.
• Content I particularly enjoy drawing include monsters/Kaiju, anthropomorphic animals, and horror/macabre pieces.
• I'll likely turn down commissions including realistic portraits of people, heavy armor, buildings, or vehicles, as I don't enjoy drawing those subjects. I will not do commissions containing hate speech or artwork made to attack an individual or intimidate them. I absolutely will not draw works containing the sexualization of characters that are, or appear to be, under 18 years old.
• If unsure if I will draw your content, please feel free to contact me (mottenfest.studio[ at ]gmail.com).
Payment:
• I currently only accept PayPal and Zelle. Cash is also accepted, but in person only. If paid cash, the Client will be issued an signed itemized receipt for their records.
• Payment is made in full before I will start working on any commission.
• Tips for good service are highly appreciated, but of course, are at the Client's discretion. :)
Shipping and Handling:
• Shipping is paid by the Client unless otherwise discussed or not applicable.
• Shipping is determined by destination and what is being mailed.
• All orders within the United States include USPS Tracking. International Tracking depends on the location, and the country's regulations.
• Insurance is also available (Additional USPS Fee applies).
• International Buyers Please Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the shipping cost. These charges are the Client's responsibility. The Client is encouraged to research their country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be. The Client is also encouraged to check their country's regulations on what is acceptable to mail into and within their country.
That's a wrap! If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
